Lyrics
Everywhere
I grew up with you, healed my wounds with you
I crawled through darkness with you by my side
You hurt me I hurt you, we found new ways to be true
I climbed new mountain trails with you as my guide
The years have spun their silver thread to wed us deep as bones
And everywhere your moon will shine in my sky
I find my steel with you, I test my limits with you
We fall through sky and safely land
I bare my soul to you, I seek wisdom with you
We find love’s secret in the open hand
The years have spun their silver thread to wed us deep as bones
And everywhere your moon will shine in my sky
The years have spun their silver thread to wed us deep as bones
And everywhere your moon will shine in my sky
And everywhere your moon will shine in my sky
And everywhere your moon will shine in my sky
Broken Wing
A flock of geese lands at the lake, there’s one I see each year
When the flock takes off to southern lands, this one stays right here
It’s got a broken wing it drags along, while the others soar over woods and sea
Well, it can’t fly where its spirit would be free
Broken wing, broken wing
Well fate’s sudden twist took me on a course I did not choose
the path was far from what I planned, with no one to accuse
But I drank the sun into my bones and felt the wind lift me to the sky
Well, I can’t fly but my heart is strong and free
Broken wing, broken wing
And I watch them soar over mountains high, and canyons deep
And now the years are short, and the price is steep
But I’ve got self-made promises to keep
I watch the flickering fire; I laugh with friends so dear
I write these simple lines that suffering ones might hear
When you let go, the burden falls, your mind is clear to see
You’ve got all you need for your spirit to be free
You’ve got all you need for your spirit to be free
Echoes Down the Canyon
When you have gone, what will you be?
Will you come round to talk to me?
I will be echoes down the canyon
I will be wind for your companion
I will be angels in the snow
In some late fire's dying glow
I will be warm and gentle rain
When you are deep and lost in pain
Why must the night be long and cold?
What is this hollow in my soul?
I try to fight I try to win
I don't know how to begin
There is a friend inside your mind
Someone who'll always treat you kind
I live in miles of open sky
I hear the voices asking why
What are these hungry hands of ice
Cruel fingers stealing life
We try to fight, we try to win
Always with love, we begin
I have the sun upon my face
I have the warm and gentle rain
I have the wind for my companion
I have the echoes down the canyon
All is Green
Whenever I catch your eye, I wanna sprout wings and fly
And rise up to the sky and touch the blue
Whenever I get the chance, my feet just wanna dance
From just one little glance I get from you
Cherry petals falling all around
Redwings making that raspy sound
Grasshoppers springing from the ground
And all is green
I don’t need a thing, just to hear the ocean sing
And drink the power she brings and feel the spray
So will you come away with me past the old crabapple tree
Down island paths to the sea - you and me and the waves
Cherry petals falling all around
Redwings making that raspy sound
Grasshoppers springing from the ground
And all is green
And all is green, and all is green
And all is green, and all is green
Snow on the Sea
Sitting by the fire, the snow coming down
The snow coming down, it keeps coming down
Out in the storm, the fog-horn sounds
A lonely sound, somehow comforts me.
And all there is, is snow on the sea
And all there is, is snow on the sea, snow on the sea, that’s all there is
I listen to the waves, all night long
All night long I listen to the waves
Thinking of the web that binds us all,
Binds us all, the living
But all there is, is me sometimes
And all there is, is me sometimes, me sometimes, that’s all there is
And all there is, is snow on the sea
And all there is, is snow on the sea, snow on the sea, that’s all there is
Camping
We’re going camping up to the white mountains
Alongside the mad river where coyotes run at night
We’re going to the wilds of nature, gonna leave the daily grind
But it’s so hard to leave my queen size bed behind
But we’ve got snap together mattresses inflatable with air
Space age blankets, comforters, your favorite teddy bear
Down and fiber sleeping bags enough pillows to make me smile
While we’re sleeping in the woods, we’re gonna sleep in style
We’re going camping up to the white mountains
Alongside the mad river where coyotes run at night
We’re going to the wilds of nature, gonna leave the daily grind
But it’s so hard to leave my wardrobe all behind
But we’ve got suede and nylon hiking boots, and Gore-Tex anoraks
Chamois shirts, Swiss Army knives, in our deluxe fanny packs
Thinsulate lined chinos, every wool sock we could bring
We’re all set for the outdoors now, we’re not gonna feel a thing!
We’re going camping up to the white mountains
Alongside the mad river where coyotes run at night
We’re going to the wilds of nature, gonna leave the daily grind
But it’s so hard to leave my household all behind
We check our list for Ziploc bags and airtight Tupperware
Travel Kleenex, wash ‘n’ dries, that goop for your hair
But when it’s all packed in the car it’s plain for eyes to see
We’re gonna have to leave behind, either you or me!
We’re going camping up to the white mountains
Alongside the mad river where coyotes run at night
We’re going to the wilds of nature, gonna leave the daily grind
But it’s so hard to leave one goddamn thing behind!
Windy
Wind whips the waves, and Moki chases the fragments of foam
And then he finds himself crab claws, a small piece of plastic, blue as the sky
And I finally land in that settled place inside me – aa-ah, aa-ah
Yellow dune grass on the yellow sand, lit by the sun
And just above it the dark gray bank of clouds, bigger than time
I hear the song of the sea blow right through me – aa-ah, aa-ah
You’re grazing for green tumbled glass on the stone studded beach
While I wander and sing my spirit songs, blue as the dusk
And you carry treasures inside and around you – aa-ah, aa-ah
Like a Jewel
Your love is like a jewel I can’t hold in my hands
It’s sunlight on the sparkling snow, you know it’s got to go
You left me in the autumn, the leaves fell to the ground
Now you’ve come around in the winter white, to love me for one night
You wrap me warm and tender, you burn me with your fire
You fill my joy with the laughing sky that I see in your eyes
So come my love and kiss me, before you walk away
Come shine on me your sweetest smile
I’ll see you in a while, I’ll see you in a while
Your love is like a jewel, it glitters sharp and bright
Like the stars for which we yearn, and burn in the night
Like the stars for which we yearn, and burn in the night
Father
You walked the land, you grew the pines, built a little house with your own hands
Father, father
The trees that grew you chopped for wood, and lit the fires when the white winds blew
Father, father
You are the oak that stands, stronger than the storms that came
Stronger than the ice and rain, you are the oak that stands.
You sailed the bay, you hauled the lines, and caught the breeze on a summer’s day
Father, father
You loved a girl and you raised up three, loved us like the sun deeply warms the sea
Father, father
You taught me of the land, where the fox walks through the snow
Where the spruce and balsam grow, you taught me of the land
You are the oak that stands, stronger than the ice and rain
Stronger than my mother’s pain, you are the oak that stands
You walked the land, you grew the pines, built a little house with your own hands
Father, father - Father, father
Across
I don’t have you - the light has you
The glint, the shine, the star
They say there’s a veil between two sides
Will you reach your smile from yours to mine
And touch me, with your spark
I don’t have you - the earth has you
The roots, the buds, the tree
And when it’s time for leaves to fall
Will you cover me, and bury all
And hold me, in your deep
I don’t have you - the sea has you
The ripple, the wave, the swell
And when you reach your lover the land
Will you roll me and toss me on the sand
And kiss me with your spray
So, cradle and roll me as I weep
Cover me and hold me deep
Send your smile in my sleep
And touch me with your spark
Yes, cradle and roll me as I weep
Cover me and hold me deep
Send your smile in my sleep
And touch me with your spark
And touch me with your spark
Dancing
They are dancing, they are dancing,
The leaves are running and prancing and skating along the street
They fly in circles on the wind
I am dancing, I am dancing, my heart is dancing up to the sky above
Carried high with love, on the wind
Well there’s a storm blowing from the south, The clouds are rolling dark and fast
Like that train you’re on, rumbling homeward in the night
We said goodbye, we said our love is real. It won’t be long now till your arms I feel
And the leaves are dancing spirals in the wind.
They are dancing, they are dancing,
The leaves are running and prancing and skating along the street
They fly in circles on the wind
I am dancing, I am dancing, my heart is dancing up to the sky above
Carried high with love, on the wind
Well I can see your eyes, and the miles of love they hold, I hear your voice so soft and low
When you talk to me, sweetly in the night
And now the sky’s turning heavy and black, I can hear your train churning down the track
And my feet are tossing leaves up to the wind
They are dancing, they are dancing,
The leaves are running and prancing and skating along the street
They fly in circles on the wind
I am dancing, I am dancing, my heart is dancing up to the sky above
Carried high with love, on the wind
Into the Night
Into the night darkness has come to take me
And I go
Follow the wind, under the street light golden
Leaves blow down
And though I am afraid to surrender
I cannot return to a day that isn’t real
Surrender, surrender
I know the way to my heart is sometimes dark
And alone
But now I hear the whisper of a friend
Come to guide me
There’s something I must try to remember
Some kind of wolflike instinct that can tell me what is real
Surrender, surrender
Surrender, surrender
Into the night darkness has come to take me
And I go
